game. And pawns are likely to see as much of it as any, Peregrin son of
Paladin, soldier of Gondor. Sharpen your blade!’

tempo de reunir notícias. Preciso ir, Pippin. Preciso ir a esse conselho de
senhores e descobrir o que puder. Mas o lance é do Inimigo, e ele está prestes

Neither
he nor Frodo knew anything of the great slave-worked fields away south in this
wide realm, beyond the fumes of the Mountain by the dark sad waters of Lake
Núrnen; nor of the great roads that ran away east and south to tributary lands,
from which the soldiers of the Tower brought long waggon-trains of goods and
booty and fresh slaves. Here in the northward regions were the mines and
forges, and the musterings of long-planned war; and here the Dark Power, moving
its armies like pieces on the board, was gathering them together. Its first
moves, the first feelers of its strength, had been checked upon its western
line, southward and northward. For the moment it withdrew them, and brought up
new forces, massing them about Cirith Gorgor for an avenging stroke. And if it
had also been its purpose to defend the Mountain against all approach, it could
scarcely have done more.

ele nem Frodo sabiam nada sobre os grandes campos cultivados por escravos, mais
no sul daquele amplo reino, além dos vapores da Montanha, junto às águas
escuras e tristes do Lago Núrnen; nem sobre as grandes estradas que corriam
rumo ao leste e ao sul para terras tributárias, de onde os soldados da Torre
traziam longas fileiras de carroças com bens, pilhagem e escravos novos. Ali,
nas regiões do norte, ficavam as minas e forjas e as convocações para a guerra
há muito planejada; e ali o Poder Sombrio, movendo seus exércitos como peças no
tabuleiro, os reunia. Seus primeiros lances, as primeiras apalpadelas de sua
força, haviam sido rechaçados na linha ocidental, no sul e no norte. No momento
ele os retirava e trazia forças novas, apinhando-as em torno de Cirith Gorgor
para um golpe de vingança. E, se também tivera a intenção de defender a
Montanha contra qualquer aproximação, dificilmente poderia ter feito melhor.
