Esta visão um tanto incomum da Terra é baseada na Equal Earth Projection, uma projeção que conserva as relações corretas entre áreas, sem causar (por exemplo) aquela ampliação exagerada da Groenlândia que estamos acostumados a ver na projeção de Mercator - a mais comum, com linhas paralelas de latitude e longitude. Não conserva as formas porque seria impossível mantê-las corretamente ao mesmo tempo que as áreas.
Ela foi gerada no curioso Map Projection Playground; esta representação dá uma boa ideia da vastidão do Oceano Pacífico e mostra a proximidade entre os continentes.
This somewhat uncommon vision of the Earth is based on the Equal Earth Projection, which preserves the correct relations among areas, without causing (for instance) that exaggerated increase of Greenland we are used to see on the Mercator projection - the most common one, with parallel latitude and longitude lines. It does not preserve shapes because it would be impossible to keep them correctly at the same time as the areas.
It was generated on the curious Map Projection Playground; this representation gives a good idea of the vastness of the Pacific Ocean and shows the proximity among the continents.
